A Short Break
I'll be back soon, I promise!
Hey, friends. You may have noticed I’ve been on break for a couple weeks. I’m dealing with some life stuff that makes recording difficult. Don’t worry, I’m not vanishing forever, but I do need to take a little time to rest and focus on some other priorities. I’ll be back to podcasting soon, though.
I’ve been working hard on my mental health recently, and that has come with some challenges, and sometimes one of the most important things you can do for yourself is acknowledge when you need a bit of breathing room. That’s also incredibly difficult to do sometimes.
I talk a lot about mental health in my videos overall, and if I’m going to talk about mental health, I really ought to put my money where my mouth is when I’m doing this. It’s a lot harder to do the thing than it is to regurgitate all the things I know about it after close to 20 years in therapy.
Today’s projects are email and tidying up my office so that it feels really good in here again. I need to get some of the depression funk out of my space, and Monday is a good day to do it. This is the start of the week, a blank canvas to work on, and since I have a lot I am doing coming up, I need to prepare my canvas.
To continue the painting analogy, I’m taking today to apply gesso to the working surface. If you don’t know what gesso is, it’s essentially an underpainting layer that prepares the surface for being painted on. So… sometimes you have to do that. Taking a break from regular podcasting and doing things like cleaning my office and tending to my mental health is the same thing. If you apply paint to an unprepared surface, it doesn’t stick well and tends to peel or flake off.

Much love!
